Returning Boston Marathon WMR Runners 2008!

By: Chris Quesada

Boston is the only major American marathon that requires a qualifying time. A race of such prestige is meant for the best and ONLY the best. For the first timers, Boston marathon will be memorable and exciting experience. It is definitely a tough and extremely hilly course. The deafening cheering from Weselley College (all girls college), the Heart Break hill, and the crowd support are unbelievable But for those Wild Mountain Runners coming back to this most preeminent event that has been going on for more than a century, only shows that WMR runners have dedication and discipline to achieve the qualifying time year after year after year. I recommend to any WMR runner that has the chance to qualify for the BOSTON MARATHON to participate. At least once in their life time anyway.

Boston Marathon Qualifying Standards are as follows:

  • To qualify for the Boston Marathon, athletes must meet the designated time standard which corresponds to their age group.
  • Boston marathon qualifying standards must be achieved some time from late September.
  • Seeding is based on qualifying times, which are subject to review and verification.
  • All participants must adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), USA Track and Field or foreign equivalent, International Paralympic Committee, Wheelchair Sports, USA, Disabled Sports, USA, and the United States Association for Blind Athletes.
  • Boston Marathon qualifying standards must be achieved in competitions observing these same rules.
  • Proof of qualification must accompany the application.
  • Participants must be 18 years or older on race day.
  • Qualifying times are based upon your age on the date of the Boston Marathon in which you will be participating.

3rd time not quite a charm for Chris who did not break the 3 hour barrier in Boston. The good news is he still qualifies for next year. Chris past Boston marathon times were 3:04 (2006), 3:02 (2007) & 3:12 (2008). So The question still stands.
